“Seek to understand. Good leaders listen first.”

Tara Tonioli, candidate for the Box Elder County School Board
Our mission

One principle guides this campaign: seek to understand. Good leaders listen first. I will work to understand every perspective, make informed decisions, and keep the board's actions transparent, responsible, and centered on students, so our educators and children can thrive.

About

A neighbor first.

I've lived in Box Elder County for more than 20 years. I grew up in Kaysville and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Family, Consumer and Human Development. After buying our first home in Bear River City, my husband and I settled in Perry to raise our four children. We've loved raising our family here.

When my children were young, I spent my time volunteering in their schools as a room parent, a reading helper, and an active PTA member. Once they were all in school, I went to work at Lakeview Elementary as a Reading and Progress Monitoring Paraprofessional, earned my Associate Teaching License, and taught kindergarten and second grade. Years inside our schools opened my eyes to both their strengths and their gaps, and convinced me it was the right time to run.

Qualifications & experience

  • Licensed kindergarten and second-grade teacher, Box Elder School District
  • Reading and Progress Monitoring Paraprofessional, Lakeview Elementary
  • Longtime school volunteer and active PTA member (room parent and reading helper)
  • B.S. in Family, Consumer & Human Development, Utah State University (Early Childhood Education & Human Development)
Priorities

Four commitments.

These are the commitments I'll bring to the board, grounded in years as a parent, a volunteer, and a teacher in our schools.

Prioritize Education

A great education starts with a high-quality curriculum that is age-appropriate and genuinely engaging. I want every student to graduate with real-world skills that help them succeed in life after school, and I'll make sure our teachers have the support they need to get them there.

Fiscal Responsibility

Proactive planning is the foundation of responsible budgeting. I'll take a hard look at district finances, including where the 37% tax increase is going, so tax dollars are used wisely for long-term stability, and rates are lowered if the revenue is there.

Support for Our Teachers

A high-quality education starts with the people on the front lines. I'll be a strong advocate for competitive pay, real support, and a district where staff can raise honest questions and concerns without fear for their jobs.

Transparency & a Real Voice

The board should be the bridge between the community and the district. Information needs to be easy to find, and every citizen, parent, and educator deserves to be heard, because each student is an individual, not just a number.
